Sitecore XM Cloud has come a long way since its initial launch at Symposium 2023 as a full SaaS and headless CMS.

Sitecore is a vendor that offers a CMS in every category, allowing customers to host and build how they want.

While 2024 was an eventful year for Sitecore, they have been continuously evolving to meet the needs of current and prospective Sitecore customers. One of the largest releases by number of updates across all products happened last week.

XM Cloud had enhancements in the Page Editor. This showcases a significant investment in the platform. It ensures that content authors and developers have the tools they need to work more efficiently.

A Mature, Feature-Rich SaaS Offering

When a company transitions to a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model, one of the biggest concerns is their ability to continue innovating. Another concern is whether they will improve the product post-launch.

Sitecore has definitively answered that question by rolling out a steady stream of new features. This proves that XM Cloud isn’t just a rebranded version of its Platform DXP – it’s a living, growing platform.

The latest Page Editor updates bring a more seamless editing experience for users:

  • Inline content editing: Users can now edit all written content directly within the Page Builder.
  • Enhanced metadata control: Content fields associated with a page, including metadata, can be edited in a dedicated Page Content pane, providing a more holistic editing experience.
  • Component-based editing: Content fields included in a component can now be edited by selecting the component and modifying fields directly from the right-hand panel.
  • Real-time updates and undo functionality: Content edits are automatically saved and reflected immediately, with Undo/Redo options available as long as the user remains on the edited page.

Expanded Support for Field Types

Sitecore XM Cloud has extended its support for various field types, allowing users to edit more content without switching between interfaces. The following fields are now editable directly within the Page Builder:

  • File Uploads
  • Droplist, Droplink, and Droptree
  • Taglist & Checklist
  • Multilist, Treelist & Multiroot Treelist
  • Checkbox Fields
  • General link fields now support email links

These additions make it significantly easier for content teams to work efficiently. There is no need for developer intervention. This further solidifies Sitecore XM Cloud’s usability and flexibility.

The above isn’t all though that came in the announcement.

AI-Powered Content Optimization with Stream

A significant addition to XM Cloud is AI-powered content generation and improvement through Sitecore Stream. This feature enables users to create and refine content using AI-driven insights and A/B/n testing. Here’s what it brings to the table:

  • Generate and optimize written content: AI can help create or transform the content of your components based on prompts, making content creation more efficient.
  • Optimization via the Optimize pane: Users can write a manual prompt or select a quick action to apply suggested prompts. They can optimize individual text fields or entire components at once.
  • Multi-prompt support: Users can apply multiple prompts per optimization and compare the AI-generated text with the original before finalizing changes.
  • Content testing: With A/B/n testing capabilities, users can compare optimized content against the original to determine which version performs better, ensuring data-driven content decisions.
  • Personalization support: AI-generated optimizations can be leveraged in Personalize mode, tailoring content for specific audience segments.
  • Brand adherence: Stream premium users can associate their sites with specific brand kits, ensuring AI-generated content aligns with brand guidelines, tone, and voice.

What does this all mean for customers

For customers investing in Sitecore XM Cloud, these updates indicate a strong commitment to continuous improvement.

Instead of a static product, XM Cloud is becoming a fully-fledged SaaS DXP that grows alongside industry needs. This benefits organizations in several ways:

  1. Improved content agility – Marketers and content creators can work more independently without technical bottlenecks.
