The last few years with Sitecore have been really interesting. The monolith DXP that has been the Sitecore’s crown jewel is now the family member no one wants to stand next to.
Everything has changed and following Stylelabs joining the Sitecore family around 5 years ago. The shift from a Swiss Army knife that can do everything to smaller tools that shine in their own right is now the standard.

I’ll admit late in 2021 I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do in regards to Sitecore and it’s possible futures. However I have been reinvigorated while working with Content Hub. I’m working with great tools that are solving my customers needs.
I am a massive advocate of Content Hub and see the potential.
This is the same for Content Hub ONE. I’ll admit it may be missing some features it’s nearest competitors has but it’s very new and does it’s job well. The best part is the product team are listening and delivering new features all the time.
With the introduction of Content Hub ONE what happens to Sitecore Content Hub CMP?

What is CMP
This first part is for anyone that is new to CMP. Content Marketing Platform (CMP) is a module in Content Operations to effectively plan, manage, and collaborate on content strategy · Streamline your production by orchestrating many simultaneous task streams.
I have seen it used by a few Content Hub customers, it’s extremely effective and centralises content production directly from the DAM.
Basically if you manage content either in multiple languages or different downstream channels. CMP enables you to care only about the content and all of its localisations and when ready push these to end user channels.
When you integrate this with other platforms like automated translation tools or Sitecore XM Cloud/Platform DXP customers get the tools they need.

The above is a representation of how Sitecore XM, XM Cloud and Content Hub can be integrated using Sitecore Connect for Content Hub.
What is Content Hub ONE
Sitecore Content Hub ONE was announced at Symposium 2022 in October. It’s generally available now and is a SaaS multi tenanted solution. Check out my first look blog to find out more – Sitecore Content Hub One – First Look

Content Hub ONE is the future for Sitecore customers that want to build websites agnostic of the channel and focus only on the content.
Comparison
CMP and Content Hub ONE are for managing your content. To keep it simple both can be used to distribute content to downstream platforms. Also CH ONE at one point was branched from the Content Hub code base.
The major difference is that Content Hub CMP comes as part of Content Hub – Content Operations. Where Content Hub ONE is for customers that need a easy to use and convenient solution.
Conclusion
I really like the idea of CH ONE and definitely feel it fills a big gap in the composable world that Sitecore exists. My main issue with CH ONE though is maturity, it’s missing some features that CMP and it’s closest competitors have.
- Direct integration to Content Hub DAM
- Media library is only a few asset types
- There is no workflow or approval process
- A trigger mechanism
- Localisation
However it has a great UI and very simple to use. In addition the APIs mean it’s ready for the MACH world. Content Hub has an API where you can make calls to get the content you need. The difference with CH ONE they are split between content and delivery as this solution is all about content.
If you were having to choose the best for you I think it comes down to what you have already. If you have Content Hub DAM then it’s a great idea to get CMP. If you are totally new to the Content Hub ecosystem then CH ONE is a great solution.
The next few months are going to be really interesting and I cannot wait to see what is coming from the Sitecore teams.
For now customers have multiple options and as the new products get more features is an exciting time.
