Sitecore Content Hub recently had its data retention policy updated for customers.
All customers should have gotten the notification already and it was effective from the 22nd of March 2023. Detailed information below:
Why this update
Proper audit log retention policies are a crucial component of any effective cybersecurity strategy. They provide a comprehensive record of all activities that occur within a system, including user actions, system events, and changes to critical data. By retaining audit logs for a set period of time, Sitecore also allows its customers to meet regulatory requirements, support incident investigations, and maintain an audit trail for compliance and accountability purposes. Balancing the retention policies of these events is important to ensure the availability of information while avoiding information overload and data privacy concerns.
What does it contain?
The latest version of this policy specifies the new default retention periods for each type of log, these periods differ for non-production and production environments. It also clarifies that logs of high-frequency or high-volume events, such as public links, will not all be kept. One link request would be kept every ten minutes.
What does it change for me?
This new retention policy will apply automatically to all Content Hub instances and to all customers, seamlessly and without impact on your operations.
What was it previously?
There was no retention timeline before on log entries. They were kept till end of time. It was identified as a possible performance and infrastructure issue by the Sitecore team.
