Sitecore Content Hub is a powerful platform for creating, managing and your content and assets. In this post, we’ll be covering how to use the old external page component format in Content Hub 4.2.

External page components in Content Hub allow you to integrate external libraries within Sitecore Content Hub portal pages. This provides a lot of flexibility and allows advanced customization.

Anyone thinking of upgrading their Content Hub version to 4.2 now needs to start considering how they want to use external components.

New external components in 4.2 default to a minimised editor experience which removes the ability to add inline HTML and JavaScript. Everything needs to be uploading as a portal asset.

Top is old layout vs new layout at bottom

Any external page components created in a version before 4.2 will be preserved and show the old layout and functionality. The steps below are for new external components that are created.

Start by opening up the page when you have or want to create an external component. Open the component and navigate to the following URL pattern – https://CHInstance/en-us/admin/entitymgmt/entity/ID

Edit the item and find the System Settings part – Changing the version from 3.0 to 2.0. Then save the changes.

Go back to your external component and refresh page. The existing external component layout should be shown.
